Minneapolis police have a new tool to track down criminals.
It's a new dog, Chief.
He's the newest "Bloodhound in Blue" for the Minneapolis Police Department.
Chief took the scent of 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS REPORTER Allison Triarsi, and tracked her down in a Minneapolis park.
Officer Bonnie Edwards is Chief's handler. She says bloodhounds are
made for this job. Their ears, longer than their nose, help scoop up
the scent from the ground.
"The loose skin around his mouth and his jowls will also help him
trap the scent so he can taste it as well as smell it," Edwards
explained.
Minneapolis is one of only two departments in the entire state with
bloodhounds like Chief. Edwards beams with pride when she talks about
Chief.
"It's absolutely doing something for our department, and the citizens. This is for them."
